 Green is Good!
November 20, 2008
Many organizations are becoming increasingly preoccupied with turning their company profiles into Green ones. Patrick Cassidy is taking part in this initiative as well by endorsing the Green Manufacturers we represent and educating our clients with ways to make their spaces less environmentally threatening. We start by looking for companies that are LEED and Greenguard Certified.
LEED – LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Green building refers to the design, construction, and operation of buildings in an environmentally friendly way. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. The rating system is specific to the type of project being worked on. Some of the specific programs are LEED-New Construction, LEED-Existing Buildings, LEED-Commercial Interiors, LEED-Core and Shell, LEED-Homes, LEED-Neighborhood Development, LEED-Schools. The rating systems are broken down in to points for each type of credit. Certification levels within the systems are:
• Minimum points: Certified
• Second highest points: Silver
• Third highest points: Gold
• Fourth-maximum points: Platinum
GREENGUARD - The Greenguard Certification Program is a third-party verification for low-emitting products. The program identifies specific products that have been tested and continue to be tested to ensure that their chemical and particle emissions meet acceptable indoor air quality pollutant guidelines and standards. This Certification Program is a valuable tool for architects, designers, product specifiers, and purchasing organizations that want to locate, specify, and purchase low-emitting products for indoor environments. The GREENGUARD Certification Program is voluntary and available to all manufacturers and their suppliers.
Global, BRC, Humanscale, Krug, Interna and many other manufacturers have LEED and Greenguard certifications that make us feel good about representing them. All of Global’s seating and wood laminate case goods, for instance, are Greenguard certified. The Boulevard System 3 Panel line, in partuclar, uses aluminum frames which are 100% recyclable! Call us at Patrick Cassidy to find out which other products are recyclable or to get a free environmental histories package.
