Learning made chic at 130 St. George
November 6, 2009
Although Patrick Cassidy is primarily known as an office furniture dealership, we also offer design and space planning guidance! Our talented sales team is always ready and willing to bring creative solutions to a potentially challenging space. This happened to be the case with the empty and unused 5th floor lobby area at Robarts Library - 130 St.George. The goal was to make the space versatile in its functionality for both staff and students, but there was also an aim for the space to inspire an “Exchange of Ideas”; a creative hub, if you will. Given this concept, the PCA reps knew that this area had to be anything but drab! Our team collaborated with U of T staff to come up with a design that eluded the look and feel of a café/lounge like the ones found around campus.
Using existing Boulevard panel systems and Global seating, the lobby was divided into centrally located work stations, surrounded and complimented by Cape tables, chairs and stools. Our PCA reps came up with a modern and chic colour palette fit for any urban scholar. With deep red walls, we chose neutral colours for table tops and grounded the perimeter of the space with charcoal grey for the frames of the chairs. With a splash of bright green from the seating fabric, a fresh and vibrant feel was introduced to a mostly concrete space.
Great minds think alike - great work U of T and PCA!
